# Serial Transactions

Group: Inventory

[Open in the interactive reference](https://docs.api.lensing.ai/lensing/v1/groups/inventorySerialTransactions)

A serial transaction records one serialized unit moving into or out of stock, or a change to the unit's cost.

Documents that change the stock or cost of a serialized unit create serial transactions. To record a stock movement, create and commit the document that moves the stock. To undo a stock movement, cancel the document that recorded it.

Each serial transaction belongs to an inventory transaction, which has the item, warehouse, date, and type of document line. An inventory transaction can have several serial transactions, one for each unit.

A serial transaction records one of these:

- The unit coming into stock or going out.
- A change to the unit's cost without stock moving, such as an inventory revaluation.

The item, warehouse, and date are those of the inventory transaction. They do not show where the unit is now. To see where a unit is now, use GET inventory/serial-numbers/:id.
