A payroll detail is a set of payroll lines recorded in a journal entry for one legal entity, one line per employee or department.

Each payroll detail uses a payroll template, which sets its categories, the rule for its journal entry date, and its clearing account. Across all lines, gross pay equals deductions plus net pay.

Payroll payments pay a payroll detail, in full or in part.
