# Employee Advances

An employee advance is money paid to an employee in advance. The money is requested by the employee and paid once the request is approved.

Each request belongs to the employee who created it and to that employee's legal entity.

A request goes through your tenant's approval policy, from 'pendingApproval' to 'approved' or 'rejected'. Issuing an approved request creates the outbound payment and its journal entry and sets the status to 'issued'. An expense report can later settle the advance.
